Craig Daniels Top Ten Social Studies Web Sites

  1. http://php.iupui.edu/~kmbeidel/indiana/lessons.html - A great source to use to teach your students more about Indiana.  Site contains lesson plans, a list of famous “Hoosiers”, and a pen-pal link for your students, and historical facts about our great state.
  1. http://www.proteacher.com/090116.shtml - Another great source for more information about Indiana.  It is a bit more detailed and has a map quiz of Indiana, as well as numerous lesson plans and ideas for teachers.
  1. http://teachers.net/states/in/ - This is an Indiana chat board!  A great site for teachers of all grades to post questions.  Ask how to teach a certain standard!  Learn how other teachers teach certain standards!  Talk to teachers around the state and see how they are doing.  This site is not intended for use by students.
  1. http://ofcn.org/cyber.serv/academy/ace/misc/cecmisc/cecmisc065.html - I chose this web page because it is a fun game activity that can be used at any grade level.  “Beat the Pro,” offer your students a chance to outsmart you!  Good way to enlighten the classroom.
  1. http://7-12educators.about.com/cs/socialstudies/index.htm - This site is good for teachers of all subjects, not just social studies.  Learn more about classroom discipline, rubric making, daily warm-up activities, and assessment techniques.  It’s a well-rounded site that is easy to use.
  1. http://www.aea2.k12.ia.us/Curriculum/socialstudies.html#american – This site provides a huge array of web links that are great resources to be used for web activities/research.  It’s great for teachers as well as students who want a complete list on one page.  An A-Z of historical information.
  1. http://www.myworksheets.com/soc_studies/ - This site offers teachers worksheets that can be printed or downloaded.  Worksheets cover just about all aspects of history and can be used as secondary “quick” activities for your students.
  1. http://highschoolhub.org/hub/history.cfm - This site offers links for geography/economics/world history teachers.  Not one of my better picks, but I have found some useful information from it never the less.  Check it out!
  1. http://www.historychannel.com/thisday/ - I thought this and the last one are important for those of us who like to use the “today in history” theme.  Pretty basic compared to the web site below, but I thought that it was good for a quick reference.
  1. http://www.scopesys.com/anyday/ - This site is a lot more detailed than the one listed above this.  However, if you just want information quickly, use the one above.  This is a great site to use if you want more details such as birthdays of famous people, deaths, and people missing in action from war.
